Meatless Mondays
Did you know that countless Americans choose to go meatless at least one day a week? Colleges and universities across American are providing students with meal plans for going vegan, all or in part. Why?? Well, here are a few of the reasons:
1.) It can take about 50 times more water per calorie to produce meat than plant based foods. 2.) A diet that emphasizes a higher proportion of plant-based foods compared to animal-based foods may help lower the risks of dying from heart disease and stroke by up to 20%. 3.) "Flexitarians" (folks who often replace meat with plant-based foods) may weight up to 8# less than the average American. 4.) 14.5% of human-caused global gree)nhouse gas emissions are created by animal agriculture. Americans don't eat nearly the fruits and vegetables they should! Choosing to eat less meat even one day a week is a delicious way to gain energy, look and feel great, and prevent many of the diseases associated with our usual dietary patterns. "The American Heart Association recognizes the role of plant-based foods in a healthy dietary pattern. Use Meatless Mondays as another opportunity to eat a well-balanced diet."
